“Tobacco Addiction and the Smoke-Free Campus Initiative” Event Held Within the Scope of Addiction Awareness Days
Within the scope of Addiction Awareness Days, an event titled “Tobacco Addiction and the Smoke-Free Campus Initiative” was organized at our University to draw attention to the harms of tobacco use, raise awareness about passive exposure, and strengthen the Smoke-Free Campus approach. The program, held at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall, included training sessions for students on “Tobacco Control and Smoking Cessation.”
Organized under the coordination of the Social Responsibility Commission of the Faculty of Medicine, the event featured training sessions delivered by faculty members from the Departments of Biophysics and Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine. The training addressed the smoke-free campus program and its requirements, the adverse health effects of tobacco and tobacco products, passive smoke exposure, the cycle of nicotine addiction, challenges encountered during the cessation process, and effective quitting methods. In addition, participants were informed about the risks associated with the use of next-generation tobacco products such as e-cigarettes and water pipes, and guidance was provided regarding counseling and support services available within the University for students wishing to quit smoking.
The event, which attracted strong interest from students, contributed to strengthening a culture of healthy living on campus.
