Social Work Student Symposium Held
The “Social Work Student Symposium” was organized by the Department of Social Work of our Faculty of Health Sciences with the aim of providing students with an opportunity to share their academic and practice-oriented studies.
The symposium was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Eseceli; the Head of the Department of Social Work, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun; Prof. Dr. Recep Yıldız; the Director of the Women, Family, and Community Services Application and Research Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Aca; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Keleşoğlu; the Head of the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports, Mehmet Karatepe; and students.
Consisting of four sessions, the symposium featured presentations by senior-year students who shared the studies they had prepared throughout the semester under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Recep Yıldız. In the first session, themed “Family,” qualitative research findings and results related to family structure, intra-family relationships, and social risks were presented. The second session, titled “Women and University Youth,” addressed issues such as violence against women, social exclusion, and the future expectations of university students. In the third session, themed “Elderly and Persons with Disabilities,” topics including neglect and discrimination experienced by older adults, social exclusion, access to technology, accessibility of shared living spaces for persons with disabilities, and the challenges faced by families of persons with disabilities were discussed. The final session, titled “Digital Media,” focused on qualitative research findings related to digital parenting, parental approaches to children’s digital media use, and social media addiction among youth.
The sessions, during which preventive and protective solution proposals were also presented within the context of social work, were concluded with overall evaluations by Prof. Dr. Recep Yıldız. The Social Work Student Symposium ended with the taking of a group commemorative photograph in memory of the day.
