“Panel on Social Awareness Against Violence Towards Women” Held

A panel titled “Social Awareness Against Violence Towards Women” was organized within the scope of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November, in collaboration with our Women, Family and Community Services Research and Application Center (BANÜ-KAT) and the Social Work Student Community. The event, held at the Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar Conference Hall, commenced with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. The program was attended by Sibel Boz, the spouse of our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz; Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Serap Palaz Çakır; our faculty members; representatives of women’s associations; members of the press; and our students.

The panel opened with welcoming remarks delivered by BANÜ-KAT Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Aca. The first session, titled “Background of Violence: Sociological and Psychological Perspectives,” featured Sociologist Dr. Eda Kılıç and Clinical Psychologist Serra Ayaz as speakers, with Dr. Sinem Atay of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences serving as moderator. While Dr. Eda Kılıç addressed the sociological dimensions of violence, Clinical Psychologist Serra Ayaz examined its psychological impacts in a comprehensive manner. At the end of the session, certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers by Sibel Boz, Prof. Dr. Serap Palaz Çakır, and Prof. Dr. Aybeniz Akdeniz Ar.

The second session, titled “Protection, Intervention, and Cooperation: Practice-Based Field Experiences,” hosted Social Worker Ayşen Gündüz; Chief Inspector Hilal Sert from the Bandırma District Police Department; and police officers Nejla Yıldırım Çulha and Elif Sili, who shared their field experiences related to intervention practices. The session was moderated by Dr. Merve Çiloğlu Yörübülut from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The interactive session advanced with contributions from the audience, and concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the participants by Prof. Dr. Recep Yıldız, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Aca, and Dr. Gizem Burcu Karaali.

Aiming to enhance social awareness in the fight against violence towards women, the panel concluded with a group photograph taken in commemoration of the day.
