Message from Our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Boz on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 3 December
The development of societies is measured by individuals’ ability to access equal rights. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December is an opportunity to remind us that individuals with disabilities face not only physical challenges but also social and communicational barriers, and to emphasize the importance of solution-oriented efforts in this area.
Eliminating the visible and invisible barriers that individuals with disabilities encounter in all areas of life is the most fundamental requirement of living together. Declared by the United Nations in 1992, the primary purpose of this special day is to support awareness and solutions that ensure the full, equal, and effective participation of individuals with disabilities in social, cultural, and economic life. In this regard, as Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, we continue to implement practices that support their active participation in education, social life, and employment. Beyond physical accessibility, we are taking steps toward becoming a university grounded in inclusive thinking and empathy.
We must remember that overcoming barriers is possible not only through technical solutions but also through understanding, compassion, and cooperation from the heart. We must work together for a future in which individuals with disabilities can exist in all areas of life, are valued, and are supported. On this meaningful day, I extend my love and respect to all individuals with disabilities and emphasize that we will continue our efforts to build a society where they never feel alone.
