“Are We Prepared for an Earthquake as Bandırma?” Conference Held
A conference titled “Are We Prepared for an Earthquake as Bandırma?” was organized by our university’s Genç Kızılay (Young Red Crescent) Student Club, within the scope of the University Student Clubs Cooperation and Support Program (ÜNİDES) and the Project on Social Adaptation to Disasters and Capacity Development.
The conference featured Yoshinori Moriwaki, a Senior Architect, Senior Civil Engineer, and Earthquake Science Expert, as the keynote speaker. During the event, topics such as Turkey’s seismic zones, structural safety, individual and community-based precautions, and disaster awareness were discussed. Special emphasis was placed on Bandırma’s earthquake risk and local preparedness efforts.
Attracting significant participation, the conference saw Yoshinori Moriwaki highlight Turkey’s ongoing earthquake reality, stressing the importance of structural safety and disaster education. The session concluded with a Q&A segment in which the speaker addressed questions from attendees. At the end of the program, a plaque of appreciation was presented to Yoshinori Moriwaki for his valuable contributions.
